Animation Diary - 29/03/2011

I will soon be colouring in this week's comic strip to establish it as a test copy. In the meantime, work on the animatic has been mediocre. I think today I could possibly have gone a little further as the two shots I worked on were not exactly challenging. I'm just doing what I can. Two weeks from now I may be too busy to work on my animation.

Animation Diary - 28/03/2011

I think I've sorted out a routine for my animation work. I'm getting it out of the way early each day so I can have more leisure time in the evening. Also, I've completed most of the structure of this week's comic strip already. Hopefully this means I will have more time to animate.

Animation Diary - 24/03/2011

I did forget to post yesterday, but I think I'm beginning to make up for the lack of effort I have put into my animatic of late. I produced a long sequence of colour animation and in doing so managed to achieve an important segue from one composition to another.

Animation Diary - 22/03/2011

Today went very well. I'm getting through the second draft of my animatic quite swiftly. I think it might be a couple of weeks before I get to the point where I stopped.

Still colouring in the animatic. I'm starting to see where it needs improving.

Animation Diary - 19/03/2011

I did it again didn't I? two days and no sign of a journal entry. The thing is, there still isn't much to talk about because I have basically started over and this time included a little colour to my existing drawings. Rather depressingly, this means I'm now back to animating shot #9 or whatever and I'm basically building my way up to what was not quite a completed animatic anyway. Still, it's not taking as long as it did the first time around. Below are some drawings to give you a flavour.

Animation Diary - 17/03/2011

Sorry. Completely lost track with this journal. I have been putting together a colourised version of the animatic. I will be attempting to finish it within a month. Then I can decide if it is worth continuing right to the end. I will be posting these on a daily basis provided I don't keep forgetting.

Animation Diary - 11/03/2011

I got as far as adding colour to some of the frames at the beginning of the animatic. I will be away for the weekend so it might have to go on hold for a few days. I think I should be able to get back on track by Wednesday. Hopefully then I will pick up the pace a bit.

Animation Diary - 10/03/2011

I'm having trouble deciding what to do next. I think I might begin applying colour to the first part of the animatic. Hopefully I can work out how to make it work without taking up too much of my time. Will keep you posted.

Animation Diary - 07/03/2011

I've got a little further with this sequence. I'm think it will need some improving for example, the movement and mass of the characters like I mentioned in Saturday's post, but for now, I'm concentrating on reaching the characters' destination points.

I got really side-tracked today. I will get straight back to work tomorrow.

Animation Diary - 05/03/2011

I've reached another difficult task. The problem I'm having this time is that I need to make two characters walk diagonally further away from their initial spot. This means I have to adjust the size every few frames as well as control the arm/leg movements whilst keeping the characters at an angle (brilliant...). I think I may need some time to plan this sequence out (there I go trying to be all professional again) and make sure I know where I'm going with those limbs. I'm starting to realise that I don't have a clue about weight and mass.

Animation Diary - 04/03/2011

Today I animated another sequence that wasn't part of the storyboard. At the moment it looks a little jerky, but that should be fixable with some cushioning. Also I think the character needs some horizontal movement because it currently moves up and down on the spot which looks very robotic.

Animation Diary - 03/03/2011

I've just finished part 2 of the current sequence. My character has committed 2 actions in one shot. The result looks very cartoony, like a Warner bros moment. I'm not sure how much polishing it can do with, but I'll soon know. In the meantime, my comic strip is more or less ready to post.

Animation Diary - 02/03/2011

I did quite well today. I completed one character sequence and for the first time I had a go at animating a run. Not sure if I did a great job of it, but I will see if I can improve it later.

Animation Diary - 01/03/2011

I have finally completed the complicated sequence which has taken up most of my previous sessions. The image below is a new idea which I never drew on paper so I might go horribly wrong. I reckon it should add some extra comedy value though.
